Il Viaggio di Marco a Italia

The Autostrade Incident Continues

30 Luglio 2005
Along the way up to the Italian lakes (we had rented a car), we took the Autostrade, so I asked Neil and Kerri if we could stop at a Punto Blu if we saw one . We did, so we stopped. It was a bit difficult, as there was parking along the highway, but no way to get into it. We ended up backing down the exit road and getting a space.

Now what? It doesn't look like much here just a small (closed) building and a path. We follow the path ... around the builidng, through the small hedge, to steps down (and a sign saying Punto Blu this way).

The steps go down to a long tunnel that goes under the Autostrade up out on the other side. Sights I have seen not listed in the guide book: #1: the underside of the Italian superhighways.

Once across the road, we follow another path to a small building with a big blue dot. Ah ha! Now we are making progress. We go in and I make my case again. The man inside is very friendly and listens to my broken Italian, takes the ticket, examines it, and then informs me that I can only pay it at a Punto Blu in Tuscany. Hmmmm, foiled again. I only have 15 days to pay this thing or I'm sure it's going to get more complicated - like a visit to Roma. Only 5 left. We did get to use their bathroom so it wasn't a total loss.
